The following is a list of websites worth checking
out.
Note: I can't possibly verify the continued
existence of these sites on an ongoing basis, so don't be surprised
if one you want has evaporated. That's life, and lack thereof,
on the Web. Also, there's a predominance of health information
here, but other categories will be fleshed out along the way.
CATEGORIES:
- Health
1) Planet Health
Remineralize the Earth No webbie yet that
I'm aware of for these folks, but this is one of the
worthiest groups and missions out there. Remineralize
the Earth, 152 South Street, Northampton, Massachusetts, 01060
U.S.A. (Tel: 413.586.4429) is an organization dedicated to restoring
the minerally depleted topsoils of the world. This is a major
boon to the planet, and thus to humanity, which also needs the
minerals that plants should be absorbing. An interesting note
is that studies have shown that damaged trees can recover as
remineralization restores a soil pH disrupted by acid rain. You
can do this in your garden for veggies brimming with good health.
Though repairing the planet's soils sounds
like an impossible task, following the pioneering work of an
engineer named John D. Hamaker, Remineralize the Earth's founder
Joanna Campe is showing the way. Check it out. The newsletter
Remineralize the Earth is available for subscription at
$15, $20 and $25 or more for three issues in the U.S., and provides
resources and great info on happenings and progress. They use
subscription revenues to mail newsletters to Peace Corps volunteers
and others in places like El Salvador, Nepal, Cambodia and eastern
Europe.
Nature
Conservancy Top notch eco-consciousness organization.
Their thing is to actually buy and hold key pieces of land, which
will thus will be protected or/and utilized wisely. They work
with and educate land owners, businesses and governments to arrive
at comprehensive solutions. Worthy of the support of all planet-conscious
persons.
2) People Health
HealthWorld
Online Massive, inexhaustible source of worldwide information.
Hard to imagine more info in one place. Focus is on the 'alternative'
venue and self help: "We have created HealthWorld Online
to act as your 24-hour health resource center--a virtual health
village where you can access the information, services and products
to help design a wellness-based lifestyle."
[See also HEALTH below for
specific links you can jump to from here.]
Diamond
Organics Mail order organic food from a family farm and
associate organic farmers near Freedom, California. Nice, homey
feel and sincere folk.
- Science
Institute for
Frontier Science "The Institute for Frontier Science
(IFS) is a nonprofit corporation founded in 1996 to foster and
maintain research, education, and information exchange at the
frontiers of science, technology, wellness and healthcare, consciousness,
and the mind-body-spirit. As an independent organization, IFS
was established to explore novel scientific discoveries and ideas
that are often considered unconventional."
- MacStuff
VersionTracker Your
one-stop for links to Mac software updates - everything
from Freeware to Beta (public test) versions. This site stays
CURRENT!
Cult of Macintosh
Probably the coolest and most comprehensive Mac site on the
Web, with tons of links to everywhere. You could spend days on
this one. Fabulous appearance.
Macintosh User
Groups (MUGS) A linked listing of most or all of them.
User groups are great for networking and sharing that MacPassion.
Dreamlight Major
showcase of graphic designer Michael Scaramozzino (did Macromedia
FreeHand's famous Javelin Thrower) and his interactive multimedia
studio. Unique design and function. Wild graphics. Have a
fast modem.
- Spirit and Philosophy
Kaleidoscope "A
journal of our changing times" Free bi-monthly journal published
in hard copy, with its articles collected by subject on the site.
" We are publishers of articles on various subjects relating
to the Universe and All That Is in it. The main purpose of The
Kaleidoscope Journal is to promote co-operation between Holistic
and alternative Practitioners. This includes all modalities of
Holistic Healing and Alternative Health Care, Spiritual Counselors,
Psychics, and Energy Workers. Journal is nicely designed and
excecuted. The practitioners and advertising area are primarily
in the central Massachusetts, USA area, but growing.
What is Enlightenment?
- Bi-annual journal of the Moksha Foundation that provides insightful
articles on spiritual topics of our time.
HEALTH
Though many modalities
may not be officially approved, this is usually politics. However,
unless you know you know what you're doing, it's usually
wise to consult a certified health care practitioner. Notice
I didn't say "licensed health care practitioner". Though
licensing can have value, in many cases it is politics, too,
and in fact, some practitioners have had their licenses revoked
for using safe, effective, but 'unapproved' methods. History
is full of these stories. On the other hand, certification (degree,
certificate, etc.), upon which licensing is partially based,
is usually a reliable indication that the person has taken the
trouble to get some formal training.
But remember the maxim: Ineptitude
can transcend education.
It may help to consider that
most of what is called disease is actually symptom. Therefore,
keep in mind that some modalities deal mostly with symptoms and
not the cause. The trend in holistic fields today is toward the
idea that the psyche is the source of all illness regardless
of apparent cause. Educating oneself is desirable but challenging,
considering both the time required and the degree of controversy,
or differing professional opinion. It usually takes the absorption
of a wide variety of material before you come to a comfortable
sense of what approach or approaches are right for you - the
INDIVIDUAL. (For a solid discussion of the disease/symptom concept
and related ideas, try my Holistic
Health Essays.) Self-treatment is an inalienable right.
But remember the second maxim:
Your own ineptitude could transcend your education.
